Sourcing

Insect and Butterfly sourcing

Our insects and butterflies are sourced from breeders and supplies for captive breed insects on insect farms throughout the world. None of our specimens are wild caught so are not taking from the wild population. These captive bred insects and butterflies have very short life spans, and once bred and grown are used by many industries including for education (schools), preservation (museums), and collections/art (entomology, oddity, and natural world enthusiasts). These farms can also release a portion of the insects back into the wild to boost wild populations. All of our specimens have passed biosecurity, quarantine and CITES inspections. CITES is the Convention of International Trade for Endangered Species of Floral and Fauna. We do not sell any CITES protected species.

Other Animal Sourcing

All care has been taken to source our other animal products as sustainably as possible. These products come from industries such as pest control, farms, and the meat industry. We do not deal with any endangered species.

We do not source or sell any bats as we do not support the practice of culling the wild bat population. Bats have a very low reproductive cycle and wild populations can not recover from culling whole colonies. There is virtually no other way to source bat products other than the wild culling method.

We understand that insect and animal products are not for everyone and ethics is an individual's interpretation and values.
